What is the Leipziger Tanzhausfest?
The Leipziger Tanzhausfest takes place for four days between Ascension Day Thursday to the following Sunday. It is organized by Tanzhaus*Folk e.V.
On this occasion musicians and dancers from all over Europe join to make friends, to dance and to enjoy the music.
Over daytime several workshops are offered their held by the invited bands. So the participants get the possibility to learn new dances or refresh their knowledge to join in the dances witch are played in the evenings. Sunday morning is on behalf of our small guests. They always have great pleasure on our children's program with dances, songs and music for children.
The idea of forming an international dance festival was born in 1985 when young people who where bored of disco-music gathered to look for different ways to dance to music. They had already discovered the Volkstänze and used them in an unconventional way.
After complicated ceremonies to reach official approval the first Leipziger Tanzhausfest took place in 1986 at the Kongreßhalle
The Leipziger Tanzhausfest has developed to one of the biggest dance events of its kind in Germany.
Today's problems mainly are to find sponsors to finance the festival and locations that fit our needs.
The organizers of the Leipziger Tanzhausfest are volunteers.
